This is a list of medicinal scientists from the field of natural products who have made notable contributions to the benefit of mankind through innovating natural products:

  • Dr Mark Nelson - tetracycline, plague, highlighted ancient Nubian use of antibiotic beer, showing Alexander Fleming was just a dirty dude who got lucky
  • Alice An Ball - The Ball Method - Leprosy
  • Professor Yu Yu Tu - artemisinin, saves millions of lives from malaria every year
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Adam Sertürner - morphine, pain
  • Fredrich Kekule - not really medicinal but natural products so hes in
  • K. Bodendorf and P. Krieger - Isolation of Mesembrine
  • Richard Evans Schultes - multidisciplinary founding father of pharmacognosy/ethnopharmacology/ethnomedicine
  • Albert Hoffman Obviously - first to characterize psilocybin, discovered LSD
  • William Leonard Piccard piggy backs on him, chemistry hero for producing 95% of americas LSD during prohibition, predicted fentanyl crisis
  • Quininoe, Strychnine, Caffeine Pierre Joseph Pelletier (1788–1842) and Joseph Bienaimé Caventou (1795–1877)
  • Nichols and Shulgin - over 200 synthetic psychadleics, including a refined means of syntehsizing MDMA
  • the great Linus Pauling - Vitamin C
  • Dr. Arthur Hefftner - mescaline isolation first to isolate a hallucinogenic alkaloid and demonstrate that it alone produced the effects of the plant
  • Gordon Wasson (tentatively have him here, he was an MKultra pawn, and kind of a shit person, but critical in bringing the psilocybn to the west)
  • Marie Curie - discovered radioactive elements
  • Seaborg (more so a physicist, but due to my close ties with him, he gets on the list) - discovered transuranium elements
